St Ives Harbour Hotel Aimee and Matt

St Ives holds special memories for Aimee and Matt

Aimee and Matt live in Worcestershire, Matt was born in Cornwall and Aimee always holidayed in Cornwall as a child, especially St Ives so it holds special memories for her and is one of her favourite places.

Their Wedding venue...it had to be St Ives Harbour Hotel

St Ives Harbour Hotel was the first wedding venue the couple viewed and the last. It was Aimee's birthday, and Matt treated her to a nights stay, where they both enjoyed a three-course meal, spent time in the spa and spent time enjoying the views of their stunning location.

They were shown around and met with the wedding co-ordinators who explained what their wedding day would entail if they chose The St Ives Harbour Hotel. They booked a week later.

"The staff were all so friendly, the service was incredible, food was to a very high standard and above all the view are like no other. With the beach only a walk away, we knew we may be able to spend time on the beach on our wedding day should the weather permit. This meant a lot to us."

One of Aimee's closest friends got married in 2014 and had Alexa Poppe photograph her big day. Aimee was impressed by Alexa's professionalism on the day and how she naturally mingled with guests and was so friendly to chat to. And then she saw the wedding photos!

"She took very natural photos of guests laughing and enjoying the day. The colours in her photos just popped out, really telling a story, one of love, fun, and laughter."

Aimee got a few quotes from other photographers but they weren’t quite what she was looking for. She knew she wanted Alexa for her big day.

Aimee and Matt used the local florist in St Ives for their flowers, Wheal Sara Flowers. Living a long way from Cornwall meant Aimee did much of the planning via email and on the phone, she sent Wheal Sara photos with ideas and inspiration and Wheal Sara were fantastic and really helpful.

Aimee Florence did Aimee's makeup, not only a talented makeup artist but a great friend too. She did the make-up for the two bridesmaids and Aimee's mum's too.

"Spending the morning of the wedding with her meant the world to me."

Aimee’s mum (Aimee the make-up artist!) Susan owns a Tea Room in Porthleven called ‘The Twisted Current’.

"Having enjoyed many cream tea’s there, I knew I had to ask Susan if she would make our wedding cake. She was as accommodating as ever and even decorated it with flowers to match my bouquet. I recommend anyone visit The Twisted Current whilst in Cornwall for some wonderful lunch, tea, and cake."

Aimee chose Simply Bridal hair, she was featured in a bridal magazine and her online profile looked great.

The dress

Aimee's dress was a Stella York dress from a shop in Worcestershire. A vintage style ivory lace over champagne coloured gown. The detail on the back of the dress captured Aimee and although it wasn’t what she had pictured herself wearing when she tried it on she just knew and didn’t want to take it off.

Favourite part of the day

"During our wedding, I spent several moments just looking around and seeing all my nearest and dearest together, and in St Ives, a place we love and somewhere that most of our guests had travelled a long way. The whole day was so overwhelming in the most beautiful way. We were lucky enough to walk to the beach for photos."

It was the relaxed Cornish wedding the couple had wished for.
