Megan and Sam’s Country Wedding

"I was able to imagine us at this venue straight away and the 90-metre lime grove was a huge selling point for me!"

Megan and Sam’s Country Wedding

"Let’s book it!"

Megan and Sam had been looking at venues in their home county of Suffolk. They discovered some beautiful ones, but none were quite right.

Both deciding they would be happiest with just a small number of their closest family and friends in attendance, Megan typed ‘small weddings’ into Google, and up the venue options.

"I was able to imagine us at one of the venues straight away and the 90-metre lime grove was a huge selling point for me! I showed Sam the venue that evening and he said ‘Let’s book it!"

Out Out of the Ordinary Weddings

"On the day Out of the Ordinary Weddings was assigned to us and we really appreciated Hazel speaking with us on the phone on several occasions to discuss our plans for the day. Hazel made sure everything went as it should and we had an amazing time."

Photography

"We wanted to make sure we had naturalistic shots rather than very posed ones"

The theme - a nod to nature

They didn’t have a theme, as such, but there was a nod to nature. Sam works for Suffolk Wildlife Trust so they opted for more rustic-style decorations and also used their tandem as a prop!

nature-inspired biscuits by Emily Hankins

Megan started following Jenny Wren Weddings and Events on Instagram and one day she posted a photo of some beautiful nature-inspired biscuits made by an Emily Hankins,

"I knew instantly they would work beautifully at our wedding, so I contacted Emily for a quote. I then discovered that Emily’s business was initially supported by the Prince’s Trust, who also supported MY business – I’m a freelance writer, proofreader and editor – which made me even more keen to work with Emily!

Indulgence Catering

Rebecca from Indulgence Catering, as was the case with all of their suppliers, was very helpful and had a phone chat with Megan and Sam prior to the day.

"She was happy for me to make a couple of alterations to a set menu and helped serve our canapés. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to talk to Rebecca on the day but the food was lovely and there was plenty of it. Our guests were very happy!

All of our suppliers were brilliant and worked really hard to make sure we had the day we had envisaged. We appreciated many of them taking the time to talk to us on the phone"

The dress

Megan wore a full-length ivory gown with a lace bodice and pretty detailing to the back, as well as a small train.

"I added silver jewels to the bodice, wore a silver leaf headband for a little extra sparkle, and kept my jewellery simple and understated. I also had some gypsophila in my hair, which my late Grandma used to love"

favourite part of the day

"Sam’s response, when I asked what his favourite part of the day was ‘The bit when we got married, of course!’ I feel the same

We both loved how informal and relaxed the day was. Everything went smoothly and our guests seemed to enjoy themselves as much as we did"

Top tips for other couples

"Take time out for yourselves. Delegate jobs, if possible, to minimise your stress. Don’t sweat the small stuff! Not everything will go to plan, but as long as you get to marry your best friend, that’s all that matters!"
