Hendra Barns

Wanting a venue that felt private, a day just for them with their family and friends.

“When we came to meet Maggie for the first time we both knew that Hendra Barns was the place. The scenery and views were simply stunning. Beautiful grounds, woodlands, everything we love.”

Once they saw the arbour by the lake they knew that was the place they wanted to get married. A function room had recently been built and it was just perfect. Wooden beams, light and airy and plenty of room for fairy lights.

Lauren and James chose to hire Hendra Barns for three days and had twenty guests staying with them in the house and the adjoining cottages.

“It made life so much easier to be there for all the set up the day before and then to wake up on the morning already at the venue. It was so relaxing.

Maggie was amazing from the beginning. Nothing was ever a problem and she was with us all the way, even on the day, she did so much. Just a wonderful lady. Couldn’t recommend Hendra Barns enough.

We always wanted our day to be an informal celebration. We had a vision of just a big party full of colour, people to dance if they wanted or if they preferred just chill by the fire pit.”

The theme

Lauren loved the Boho look which she mixed with her love of arts and crafts, all things handmade. Elephants, flowers and fairy lights, hand-painted jam jars, Macramé wedding curtains, plant-hangers, dreamcatchers, hand-written signage and invitations! This was the vision Lauren had in her head!

“Anyone that knows me knows how much I love colour and we certainly had plenty of that!”

The day included a glitter station, which everyone was invited to take part in (eco glitter of course!) a photo booth with props.

A ‘Bake off’

Not wanting a traditional tiered wedding cake Lauren asked a few of her guests who she knew were fabulous bakers to each bake a cake and she called it a “bake-off!”

“I can’t bake but I did put in an entry from the amazing Lakeside Cabin, St Ives” (we are sure this is cheating Lauren!!!)

Kerra’s Catering

Lauren and James chose to have a BBQ Wedding Feast! Plenty of meat for the carnivores and fantastic options for the vegetarians.

“The food was absolutely delicious and all of our guests agreed. Kerra was brilliant from the beginning. Listened to exactly what we wanted and what she created was spot on.

Her team that were there on the day were so lovely, friendly and efficient. I would highly recommend these guys to anyone who needs catering for their special day.”

Wheal Sara Flowers

Lauren and Lizi had so much fun the day before the wedding getting all the arrangements and bouquets made up. Being an amazing florist Lizi created Lauren’s vision to absolute perfection. The flowers were such an important part of Lauren’s day.

“What can I say...Lizi is my best friend and I’ve worked with her as a florist over many many years. It was so special to have her there to help me create what I wanted.”

the dress

Not wanting to spend a lot of money on her dress yet wanting it to feel special, whilst also informal. Lauren found the perfect dress in a sale on ASOS! A French Connection dress and she loved it!

“I was so happy! It was perfect for me. A lovely lady down the road from me did a couple of alterations and that was it. Sorted!”

The Groom

James also wanted his outfit to be relaxed and informal he chose a collarless shirt and chinos. His buttonhole was made with succulents and included a green bell.

Favourite part

“We can’t single out a favourite part of the day. For us the whole day was amazing.

All the hard work from from family and suppliers before and on the day shone through. It was exactly what we wanted, chilled and full of fun and laughter.

Just to see our families and friends enjoying the day made it for us.”

Top Tips

“All I can say to other couples is to just enjoy every moment of your day! It goes so so fast, you have to make the most of it.

Don’t stress about the small things. You’ll be so carried away with the day that none of that will even matter.

Be true to who you are and what you want for YOUR special day.”
