A Marquee Wedding in Cornwall

St Agnes headland is one of Rebecca and Simon’s favourite Cornish spots because of its wild romantic beauty and incredible coastline view that stretches all the way down to Godrevy lighthouse.

“We wanted to have our wedding amongst this stunning nature and share it with our family and friends, some of whom had never been to Cornwall. Their minds were blown!”

The theme

The theme was born out of Rebecca’s Jenny Packham wedding dress - a Midsummer Night's Dream. Big multicoloured flowers with lots of foliage, rose gold sequin table cloths and rose gold sequin bridesmaid dresses.

“Bold but so very soft and elegant at the same time. It suited us and the setting.”

“Anna is truly so talented as she listened to what I wanted and she came up with incredible ideas. The colours were so stunning and the centrepieces and bouquets were so much bigger than we thought and it really worked! Mesmerising! Without her, our wedding wouldn't have been as magical.”

Hatch marquees

Hatch marquees set up the beautiful clear-span marquee in extremely high winds!

“Very clever workmanship!”

Rebecca and Simon chose Hatch marquees because of their clear-span options. They wanted to still feel like they were outside amongst the beautiful natural surroundings no matter the weather. Hatch also offered a completely clear-span reception bubble to have their ceremony in, in-case of bad weather.

“We loved how flexible they were with their clear span options. We could have had a completely clear-span marquee with all panels see-through but seeing as it was a June wedding we worried about the heat so we opted for half clear-span roof which meant we could dance under the stars”

On the day, Rebecca and Simon awoke to the dreaded Cornish sea mist and it didn't lift in time for the ceremony, which was supposed to be outside. However, with the clear-span reception bubble, it didn't matter.

“It still felt like we were outside but it was so much more intimate and cosy and stunning with how Anna from Wedding flowers in Cornwall had decorated it. In a way, the mist was a blessing in disguise! Hatch were great to work with and they offered something that bit more unique which was what we were after.”

A vegetarian Wedding Feast by Dish Cornwall

Dish Cornwall created a delicious vegetarian menu using local foraged and seasonal ingredients.

"Dish Cornwallcreated a vegetarian Italian feast for our wedding using local, seasonal and foraged produce, which we loved as it added a wild food vibe to our meal. Most of our guests weren't vegetarian but they all commented on how it was the best wedding food and vegetarian food they've ever had. From the canapes through to the desserts, it was all so so scrumptious!"

"My dress! It was so dreamy"

Rebecca wanted a fitted dress with beads and sparkle in a vintage style. The dresses Rebecca tried on were all by Jenny Packham one of which had been ordered in especially by another bride-to-be to try on but she had never turned up.

“The boutique were sending it back the day after I went in but when I tried it on my mum and my sister gasped and immediately started crying.... I then looked at myself in the mirror and did the same. It was the one! Elegant, vintage, classy, sexy and so romantic.”

The dress detail

“It has small beaded flowers stitched in which went with our Summer marquee wedding in a field and the train looked like sparkly flowing water - symbolic of the ocean to me. This Jenny Packham "Nashville" dress was the inspiration for the wedding planning that was to follow.”

Accessories

Rebecca chose some diamond rose gold earrings and a diamond rose gold bracelet from Accessorise which were not only cheap but looked very expensive, they also matched the bridesmaids' dresses. Rebecca also chose a white faux fur shoulder shawl for when she was cold.

“I was also supposed to wear this spectacular gold crown that was handmade for me here in Cornwall out of quartz crystals by Snowstorm Designs but I forgot to wear it! Neither of my five bridesmaids remembered either! At 4pm on the day my Mum looked at me and said "You never wore your crown!" Pretty gutted but obviously didn't ruin the day as I hadn't even realised.”

favourite part of the day

My favourite part of the day was walking out of the grey mizzle into the marquee with my Dad as we went to walk down the aisle and seeing all of these enchanting flowers. I was awe-struck by their beauty and how magical it all looked. The grey mizzle outside didn't matter as there was such an amazing garden inside! Then seeing everyone we love being there and then seeing Simon - my now-husband waiting for me and looking at me with such love on his face. This was my favourite moment. There were so many amazing moments though.

Simon's favourite part was similar - seeing me for the first time in my dress as I entered the marquee.

top tips

Planning is important but at least one thing will not go to plan on the day but don't stress about it. Remember it's your day and have the best time. Savour every moment as time flies! We also recommend getting a videographer as well as a photographer no matter the cost as they capture the day differently to each other. We weren't going to get a videographer but at the last minute changed our minds and we're so pleased we made that decision. Memories forever.
