Trevenna Amy and Darren

"I knew one day I would get married at Trevenna"

Amy is a trained florist and has decorated Trevanna for so many weddings - she loves the venue. As soon as Darren popped the question they started planning the wedding and first on the list of to-do's - visit Trevenna. So it comes as no surprise that it was the perfect venue for their big day. And in Amy's own words...

"I knew one day I would get married at Trevenna."

The Pandemic

Having planned for over two years to get married on Saturday 3rd October 2020, all of their handmade accessories had their date on. So when the pandemic first hit both thought their date would be fine - it was over five months away.

"We were completely wrong! During the first UK lockdown the government announced that weddings would be cancelled until further notice, this completely broke my heart for all of the brides and grooms due to be getting married at the start of the year."

After a long three month lockdown for so many couples, it was announced that weddings were able to resume with a limited amount of guests, the restrictions now limited all couples to only 30 guests.

"After inviting over 100 guests to our wedding we were devastated to have cut our guest list numbers by more than half. We had been waiting so long for our day we decided to carry on and plan a wedding with the restriction, little did we know this wouldn't be the end of what seemed to be a nightmare."

The announcement

"On the 22nd September 2020, the Prime Minister announced that wedding guests were to be cut again by half to only fifteen guests. We were completely devastated, we only had two weeks to go to our big day. After many tears and frustration, we decided to re-think and contacted Trevenna.

After speaking to Jonathan at Trevenna who was also completely devastated for us, yet we remained determined not to cancel our big day. With 30 really excited guests, including my brother and his girlfriend who were at the end of a two week quarantine after travelling over from Canada we couldn't cancel."

The solution

Jonathan at Trevenna offered them an amazing opportunity, he asked if they were able to travel down to Trevenna the next day Wednesday 23rd September 2020 to be married on Thursday 24th September 2020. This date would allow them to have their 30 guests in attendance before the restrictions came into place on Monday 27th September 2020.

"Without hesitating, we both said yes! With less than 24 hours notice we rounded up all 30 of our guests and before we knew it, we were at Trevenna setting up for our big day. Our registrar was available, all of our suppliers including lighting, form Light Up Weddings Cornwall and Giant Love Letters Cornwall stepped up to make our special day happen."

Wedding Photography

Before the pandemic they had a professional photographer all booked however due to the limited number of guests and a lot of our family unable to attend the wedding, they asked Amy's brother and his girlfriend if they would be able to capture their special day.

"They are both incredible with cameras and had all the right cameras and equipment including a drone to create an amazing wedding video and capture some brilliant photos. The day was incredible and we were lucky to have a couple of hours of sunlight for some photos in the beautiful grounds of Trevenna."

Hannah May Makeup and Adele Wedding Hair

Unfortunately, Amy's original makeup artist and hairstylist weren't available due to the sudden change of date, so Amy reached out to her friends on Facebook and Adele of Adele Wedding Hair kindly offered to travel to Trevenna to do her hair, and Hannah May offered to be her makeup artist.

"I couldn't thank them enough with such short notice they made me feel a million dollars! Hannah May is so talented and really makes sure you are completely happy with her work. My make up was exactly what I asked for. The makeup lasted all day and even with the rainy weather we had in the afternoon it did not budge, I'm so pleased she was there on my big day."

The Theme rustic and natural

Wanting a relaxed and calm wedding they decided on a rustic and natural colour theme of sage greens and soft pinks with a lot of wooden accessories.

"We handmade a lot of our accessories that were placed around the venue including wooden hand painted table numbers, a chicken wire and wooden table plan and wooden welcome sign."

Darren is a carpenter so making their own props was really rather easy. But the DIY didn't stop there they also hand made all of their wedding invites along with personalised children's colouring books, place setting name tags and table plan cards.

"Doing so much of it ourselves really did save us a lot of money"

The Wedding Feast

Amy and Darren with the help from Trevenna put together their perfect menu. To start soup and wild mushroom on toast followed by a chicken and beef dish or homity pie for the vegetarians. To finish they chose chocolate brownie and lemon tart.

"The food was incredible and they were able to get everything we asked for on the menu, it was so yummy! We thought this would be the best menu to suit everyone's taste."

The Dress

Not wanting a white or ivory dress instead Amy chose a blush lace dress with a scalloped train and thin pearl straps. A dress by Stella York. It was exactly what she wanted.

After seeing a different dress in the window at The Bridal Corner in Plymouth, Amy booked an appointment with Kelly to try on some different styles. After trying on five dresses Amy then stepped into the one.

"I just knew it was the one! It had just the right amount of sparkle and made me feel so confident."

The Groom and Groomsmen

Darren, his best men and both Dads wore a Marc Darcy suit named Ted Tan. Darren chose this suit for the style and quality of the material, the colour was perfect and really complimented their colour theme.

Their smaller 'I do' was so special

Although Amy and Darren only had 30 of their loved ones with them they really enjoyed it and were able to speak with everyone.

"It felt like we were one huge family. We had a really quiet and chilled evening with a lovely buffet, our music playing over the speakers from a Spotify playlist and candles lit all around the venue Trevenna.

Everyone at Trevenna was absolutely amazing, and they really couldn't have done any more for us. With such short notice, they were still able to give us the day we both dreamed of."

Favourite part

"My self and Darren both agreed that the most special part of our day was saying our vows to each other, this part for both of us was really special and after waiting so long to marry each other it feels good to remember the part of the day that was truly about us."

Advice

"My advice to any other bride and grooms planning to get married is to do it for you, not everyone else.  After such a horrid year we were determined to do what we wanted to do, not all of our 110 guests were able to see us get married but we are so pleased to have had the opportunity to have 30 of our nearest and dearest with us.  Also take every single moment in that you can, because the day goes so fast!"
