All about Cake!
Over a coffee, and cake with Emily from Emily Hankins Cakes I happily munched on delicious cake whilst being inspired by a fabulous cake designer.
What has been the most popular style of cake this year?
“2018 for me has been all about clean lines, even taller tiers and all things floral! I have found this year that couples really want to put their stamp on their cake designs more than ever and I have had fun painting little personal touches like beloved cats, family silhouettes and even landscapes of favourite places. In the wider cake world metallics, floral hoops, monogrammed tiers and marble effects have been dominating the top trends this year.”
What has been the most asked for flavours?
“My most popular flavour for the past few years has been my zesty lemon sponge with lemon curd and a white chocolate buttercream. Lemon is a winner whatever time of year it is and always compliments a meal or buffet. It is light and zingy and even after a big meal you can still find a little bit of room to tuck into it!”
What do you think the wedding cake trend will be for 2019?
“Texture! I have seen a lot of beautifully textured cakes recently and this seems to be filtering into the wedding world. I love a bit of texture and think it works really well against painted tiers. I also think square cakes and geometric shapes are going to be HUGE next year. Although these can be tricky to execute they can look really striking and different in a world of soft circles!”
We cannot end this blog without mentioning Emily’s edible tea-cups!
We absolutely love these.
